New J-Live Album Art by Adam Wallenta
October 6, 2010As mentioned last week, I recently illustrated some art for one of my favorite emcees; J-Live. J had a very specific vision of what he wanted and I was honored to contribute to the project and work with the super talented designer Collin Badger from Freshrr Designs. Here’s a first look at J-Live’s Undivided Attention EP, dropping November 4th. This is the precursor to the full-length album- S.P.T.A. (Said Person Of That Ability) LP (pronounced “Spitta”), dropping next year.
Both the EP and the full-length album are amazing and if you love HipHop music, you definitely need to own both of these projects. The EP has several exclusive tracks you won’t find on the full-length so definitely support this project. Stay tuned to J-Live Music for more details.
And of course I will post up the full-length album art just as soon as I can.
Please Vote for my Art
August 10, 2010Hey all,
Last week I submitted art to an Upper Playground sponsored, David Choe inspired, art competition. In order for me to win I need everyone of you to vote for my piece.
It is really easy to vote. Just sign in to Facebook and “LIKE” Upper Playground and then check out My Artwork and click “VOTE.” Super easy! When you click on the link you will see a close up of my art. If you click on the art it will take you to a full image of the art so you can view it in its entirety. I am also posting it here obviously. Feel free to leave a comment as well.
For those that don’t know who David Choe is- he is an amazing artist and I am a big fan. Check out some of his work on his website. The prize is a copy of his work, some toys he designed and an original piece by David himself.
I hope everyone will take a quick second to vote and show their support. It is greatly appreciated.
Peace!
Adam
Atmosphere
November 6, 2009All too often I hear people who claim to love Hip-Hop music and art, that the very art form they supposedly love is “dead”. I find this absolutely ridiculous. Usually i find that the listener is more or less spiritually dead, too lazy to see out new and innovative, good music, and all too content with turning on their radio, listening to crap and then complaining about it.
Truth be told is there are many great musicians recording in the Hip-Hop genre, many new and many “old school” favorites still working hard. One of these groups who have been “doing it” for a number of years that I personally am a big fan of is Atmosphere (emcee- Slug and producer/deejay- Ant). If you never heard of them and are a Hip-Hop “fan” then shame on you. There is absolutely no excuse.
A year or so ago I had the pleasure to meet Slug in person after he invited my wife and I to his show. He is truly one of the nicest and most generous artists you will ever meet and is right up there with Chuck D, Masta Ace, DMC, Freddie Foxxx and many others that I have been honored to meet and work with as both a fan and a professional, who are some of the most down to earth and kindest people you will meet. A month or so ago I received an email from Slug asking if I had any extra copies of my Public Enemy series signed by Chuck. A friend of his had lost his copy when his home was destroyed by a tornado. Of course I was more than willing to help and give him a copy or two from my personal stash.
A lot of people, especially successful people, often seem to take the work of others for granted and almost seem to expect everything for free. And to be honest, because Slug was gracious enough to get my wife and I into his show for free, I felt giving him some comics was the least I could do. But being a true gentleman and supporter Slug wanted to purchase several sets of the Public Enemy series. I was honored to say the least. I couldn’t just put some comics in a box and send them off though, I just wouldn’t feel right. So as an extra special thank you I threw in some original art from the series, some extra comics and the drawing below. I needed to experiment and try and loosen up a bit because my hand has been in excruciating pain for several weeks due to construction work and I thought this was a great opportunity to say thank you to someone who puts his heart into his work for all of us to hear.
Make sure to check out Atmosphere’s music at Atmosphere and if you dig it go to FifthElement and make a purchase.
